We’re setting quite a few ‘firsts’ this year and it’s still only April! On the 24th of April we’re heading to The Netherlands for our inaugural Mini Seedcamp Amsterdam. The Netherlands has been on our ‘must visit’ list for a number of years now so we’re excited to have finally set a date.

As the event is proceeding TNW Conference commencing 25th April, lots will be happening in the ‘Dam. All the great people drawn to the conference will hopefully be able to join us for the half day event and meet some of the most promising startups from the region.

Our local champions encouraging us to take the short hop across the channel have opened all doors to ensure we’re well taken care of. Our event partners are HenQ, the Seedcamp investor from Amsterdam, and SoftLayer, who has been a strong supporter of Seedcamp since they expanded to Europe. Our longstanding mentors from YA! and ACE have also proven invaluable in helping us get set up.

The event is taking place at the beautiful Zuiderkerk and we’ll be joined by various members of the bustling Dutch ecosystem, our friends from Microsoft BizSpark and many more Seedcamp friends who’ll be in town that week.

This year we’ve introduced multiple ways to join the Seedcamp Family and applying to local events is a great way to get shortlisted to attend one of the four funding events per year, the Seedcamp Weeks in Berlin and London. Next up is Seedcamp Week Berlin in May (startups can apply directly to Seedcamp Week events, or get shortlisted through participation in Mini Seedcamps).

If you’re a startup keen to join us in Amsterdam on the 24th of April, make sure to complete the short application form via AngelList. The deadline is the 15th of April.

If you’d like to join us as an attendee on the day please sign up here via Eventbrite.

Mini Seedcamp Belgrade will be our inaugural event taking place in Serbia and our first Mini Seedcamp of 2013 so we are very excited! We’ve watched the ecosystem grow fast over the years having attended various events there.

Local Partners On the 5th of April, Mini Seedcamp Belgrade is taking place at a spectacular location, the Royal Palace, a mansion part of the Royal Compound. We have a super strong local team on the ground helping us make this happen, huge thank you to Vukasin Stojkov and his team at SEE ICT and our media partner start.it for all their hard work.

Schedule The half-day event is action packed and a concentrated version of our previous Seedcamp events. It will showcase some of the best emerging startups from the region, each of which will present to a panel and receive immediate feedback. The schedule also includes a masterclass by Carlos Espinal, a panel discussion and plenty of networking allowing you to connect with other key figures in web technology from Serbia and further afield.

Who should apply? Local and regional startups who are seeking exposure, advice, and want to increase their network, this is the event for you. It’s an opportunity to gain feedback on your startup, meet other entrepreneurs in an informal environment and get to know Seedcamp.

Apply to a Mini Seedcamp, Seedcamp Week or both? We’ve stepped up our activities this year and aim to host Mini Seedcamp events in more than 20 cities primarily across Europe. For startups this means more opportunities to interact with us. Stepping into a relationship with an investor is a key decision for any startup. Like any long-term partnership you want to ensure both parties are a good match. Mini Seedcamps allow startups to learn about our investment opportunities with the chance of being fast tracked to the next Seedcamp Week event where investment decisions are made. In essence there is nothing stopping you from applying to multiple events strengthening your chances of meeting us face to face and joining the Seedcamp Family!

Founders Pack The finalists of the event will each be given our Finalist Founders’ Pack, which we’re super proud of. It contains offers from corporates including AWS, Google and Bitly. It’s monetary value exceeds €50k and is crucial for helping early stage bootstrapped teams grow.

AngelList Teams can now apply to present their companies at Mini Seedcamp Belgrade on AngelList. As most startups will know AngelList is a platform to meeting investors, peers, advertise APIs and jobs. If you’re not already on there you really should be!

Seedcamp Budapest Pitch Training

Seedcamp Budapest Pitch Training
October 24th 2012

We celebrated our 5th birthday this year and after investing in two teams at Seedcamp Budapest, we hit another great milestone: exceeding 75 investments.

We arrived in the beautiful city of Budapest on the 24th of October and headed straight to ESSCA. Here we met with the 20 selected teams and spent a few hours together preparing for the big day ahead.

On the 25th of October we hosted the day at Corvinus University, a great iconic building and perfect setting for the event. We were joined by a hugely international group of mentors, some old faces and others new. All shared a passion for disruptive technology and wanted to share their experience, knowledge and network with the ambitious entrepreneurs in the room. We kicked off with a warm welcome from our Event Partner; Peter Záboji, Founder of the EEF, welcoming everyone to Hungary and later by Rupesh Chatwani, from the EBRD, our generous Event Sponsors. The 20 teams did us proud by delivering concise 3-minute presentations, keeping the buzz high in the packed auditorium.

After a short networking break, Klaus Hommels (early investor in Skype, Facebook, Xing and Spotify), took to the floor. He shared his thoughts on the investment landscape comparing Europe, China and the US.  The key message was to think big or you’ll never get big, something that resonated well with the audience -and a key takeaway for some of the participants from less developed startup hubs.

The rest of the day consisted of mentoring, the key value add for the 20 teams. Over 60 mentors from varying backgrounds worked to catapult the selected teams onto becoming the next generation of European Titans.

Comments from the mentors present:

Winners The quality of the 20 selected teams was at an extremely high level and we’re very proud to welcome 2 new teams to the Seedcamp Family:

Futurelytics

Daniel Hastik, Co-Founder said “Seedcamp Budapest was a great way to get extended business/technical feedback on our produce and value proposition through effective and intensive mentoring sessions. We’re proud to be part of the best known European tech seed investment programme”

Futurelytics is working on solutions that allow companies to target their existing customer base more effectively. We fell in love with the team and solution because it ticks all the boxes: a group of incredibly smart people with a clear vision of the market, combined with an easy to use product that identifies the customer’s pain head on.

Daniel, Miroslav and the team are some serious statistics buffs, and this is exactly what makes Futurelytics work. We are really happy to have them join Seedcamp and can’t wait to have them with us at Campus in London.

Stealth

We also invested in a second company out of Seedcamp Budapest – one which we’re equally excited about. As the team is still working hard on their product, they prefer not to be mentioned by name… we’ll leave it at they really know what they’re doing. Stay tuned for a future update about this one.

“The Seedcamp event was amazing. Budapest is definitely underestimated as a startup hotspot, keep an eye on that. For us as a startup, it was the perfect opportunity to expand our network, get feedback to our product and fundraising plans. Seedcamp is the ideal partner to reach our next milestone and push our business to the next level!” – Co-Founder of the second company

Thank you

We’d once again like to thank our generous Event Sponsor EBRD for making this possible and a special shout out goes to Peter Záboji who was instrumental in bringing Seedcamp to Budapest. We’re incredibly grateful for his efforts in boosting the local startup scene and the relentless planning and organising that he took upon himself to ensure that Seedcamp inaugural Budapest event went down with a big bang! Here is what he has to say:

“Seedcamp in Budapest was a big boost for the startup community in the entire region! Also, we gave the VC capos an opportunity to learn best practice mentoring. It was a true win-win for Seedcamp and EEF!”

We look forward to hopefully returning next year.

This Thursday, we will be bringing over 70 of our best mentors together on the banks of the Danube to meet 20 of Europe’s top startups for Seedcamp Budapest. After a full day of presenting, mentoring and networking, the winners will be the first teams to join the Seedcamp class of 2013!

When our first Hungarian team, Antavo, joined us after Seedcamp Tel Aviv, we knew we had to pay attention to one of the hottest entrepreneurial cities in Central and Eastern Europe and host an event in Budapest. The response has been phenomenal; we received hundreds of excellent applications and had the very difficult task of selecting only twenty to attend the event. Out of the twenty selected, we are pleased to announce that five of the teams are from Budapest and will be presenting on home turf. As always, the others represent ten different countries from all over Europe and will be traveling to join us for the day in Hungary.

Please meet the twenty selected teams for Seedcamp Budapest and take a look at the great companies they are building:

Our gratitude goes out to our Event Sponsor, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, our Event Partner, the European Entrepreneurship Foundation and to Corvinus University for hosting us. We would also like to thank our yearly sponsors Google, Bizspark, Qualcomm, Paypal and Facebook for their on-going support.

Be sure to follow our blog, Twitter and Facebook accounts to stay on top of the action in Budapest!

Our final Seedcamp of the year traditionally takes place in Paris to coincide with the fantastic LeWeb. This week in Paris is always a key date in most startups’ and investors’ calendars, so there’s no better time to meet great people in town. This year, Seedcamp Paris is taking place on Monday 3rd December. Once again, Orrick are kindly hosting us in their beautiful office and we’re proud to have the support of SoftLayer and Yammer as our Event Sponsors.

Last year in Paris, we met great startups like Bluefields and Sush.io, who are now part of the Seedcamp Family. Over the last year they have made immense progress. We also have some of our stars like Teleportd, Stupeflix, Kwaga, Sparkeo and Psykosoft originating from France, so there is no doubt that the local talent is strong!

As always at Seedcamp, we’re on the look out for hugely ambitious founders who think big and whose aim is to disrupt the status quo with their cutting edge technologies. Take a look at our ever-expanding Seedcamp Family to get a feel for what excites us. Whether it’s fashion focused too photo sharing apps, making exchange rate savings or streamlining car repair garages – we want to know what it is you’re building.

We will help you take your company to the next level – giving you access to funding, an immense network of relevant mentors, exposure to both the European and US investor community, and of course the Seedcamp Team itself.

During Seedcamp Paris, 20 of the most promising startups will join us to present, network and be mentored by over of 80 of our triple A class mentors. Some describe the experience as gaining €100k worth of top-level consultancy in a single day. It truly catapults you to a different level and sidesteps months of A/B testing various strategies and the time it takes to build up such a powerful network if going solo. Meeting 19 peers and even going through the application form thinking about the growth of your business can be an invaluable experience.

Following on from Seedcamp Paris, we’ll make the most promising teams our standard offer, (€50k for 8-10%) to join the Seedcamp Family. You’ll then join our year long programme consisting of 3 month office space at Campus London, monthly learning days, a 73 strong peer network to bounce ideas off and gain invaluable insights from. Access to our great network of over 2,000 mentors across Europe and the US, and to top it off, a Founders’ Pack worth more than €150k containing offers such as $25k AWS credits, access to Microsoft Bizspark, the Softlayer Catalyst Program, and many more.

If this all sounds exciting make sure that you don’t miss the deadline of 6 November to apply for our last event of 2012. We can’t wait to see all the great entrepreneurial talent from across Europe and beyond.
