On Monday, 10th September we teamed up with The Marketing Society to host our first major brands speed networking event with some of our best startups! We did a shorter smaller version with Albion a few months before and found it extremely highly rated. Albion connected us with The Marketing Society and off we went, the 3 of us working together.

The Marketing Society is dedicated to encouraging their members to become bolder marketing leaders. To enable this The Marketing Society helps their members develop new approaches to the business challenges they face. It is a very compelling organization with a deep understanding of the needs of Marketers and a trusted relationship with many of UK’s top brands. We are privileged to work together with their team.

Startups have disruptive technology with fresh solutions to longstanding industry problems and ground-breaking ideas for Brands/Corporates to excite their customers and either get ahead of their competition or be absolutely blind-sided by this disruption.

So how do these 2 great forces come together for mutual benefit? We provided the missing ingredient to make this event happen; Seedcamp has a portfolio of Europe’s best up-and-coming technology startups, a great and growing relationship with The Marketing Society, and a tried and true platform for making long-term connections happen.

Ten of our most promising startups presented their propositions to some of the biggest brands and brand agencies including; ASOS, Blast RadiusBarclaycard, Digital UKFreeview, Herd Consulting, HSBC, LBi, MBA, Outside Line, Razorfish, RBS  and Vodafone. This was a truly unique opportunity, as partnering with larger corporates is crucial to the startups’ growth and staying on top of disruptive forces is a big part of a Marketer’s role. Essentially a recipe for a perfect match-up.

Speed networking followed lightning fast intros from the brands and startup presentations. Here is a quote from one of the brands present.

Set amidst the celebration of sporting achievement during the London Olympics, it was a privilege to partake in a celebration of sorts of some of the most promising minds the digital space has to offer in the UK. Amidst the crowd of industry leaders, it was stimulating to see the innovation brought forward by this promising new wave of tech entrepreneurs, and a great opportunity to assess and consider how such products and their application can offer value to our product offerings going forward, fundamentally supporting our aim to provide the best experience we can to our customers and partners alike. We can certainly see us actively following the platform going forward”. Saj Arshad, Group Marketing Director at Vodafone.

This is what Gemma Greaves, Marketing Director, The Marketing Society said about the event;

“We were completely energised by the appetite of both our members and Seedcamp entrepreneurs to meet, learn and share ideas.  We pride ourselves on leading the agenda across all things marketing and partnering with the great guys at Seedcamp allowed us to showcase the latest technology and smartest entrepreneurs that our members need to know about in a very inspiring setting.  This will definitely be a key part of our programme in the future. Very exciting”.

The startups also had hugely positive feedback:

An excellent brand and partnership event from Seedcamp! It’s always difficult to get in front of the major players in digital marketing and to have such a strong audience of major decision makers in brands was extraordinarily valuable. Thank you!Rob Stevenson, Sales Director Hooplo Media

As the event proved of great value and some good fun to all participants, we have decided to make this a fixed biannual event in our calendar. We’re sure the afternoon will result in great partnerships between the brands and the startups with many business cards swapped and conversations still on going.

Along the Danube River, resides a city, a World Heritage Site, with a sizzling startup scene… and with Seedcamp Week around the corner, it is with great excitement that we open applications for Seedcamp Budapest, taking place on the 25th October, today!

Why Budapest? With a strong technical element in most successful local companies, ranging from web analytics to navigation, we could not miss holding an day-long adventure in Hungary’s capital. One of the hottest entrepreneurial cities in Central and Eastern Europe, Budapest is a great location to attract founders from all over the region and beyond. After our first Hungarian team, Antavo, joined us after Seedcamp Tel Aviv, we were impressed by their hunger for success paired with technical prowess. Antavo, and other successful Hungarian startups like Prezi have shown – there’s something we were so far missing out on. As always, we have invited awesome European internet technology mentors, who will be mentoring the 20 participating startups, giving them feedback to improve their chances of success, and networking like crazy.

Event partner We are partnering with the European Entrepreneurship Foundation, a key local player, thanks to Peter Zaboji, a close friend of Seedcamp since the early days.

Why should you apply? If you are a burgeoning tech startup, if you are ready to expand and develop your service or product, if you want to grow internationally, if you are looking for top international mentorship, whether in finance, marketing, biz dev or from VC, you are in the right place. The winners of the event will receive €50k investment for 8-10% equity and will be the first official companies to enter the Seedcamp class of 2013! Will you be the next team to win the Seedcamp Investment, a year-long support, and receive the Founders’ pack of offers from our Seedcamp Founders’ Sponsors? Do you have what it takes? There is only one way to find out and that is by submitting a kick-ass application.

How can you get some of the action? This will be our first trip to Budapest and we’re excited to see what the region has to offer. We are looking for innovative internet tech, software, media, and mobile focused businesses, great teams with awesome founders, and slick products that add real value. Take a look at our superstar teams to give you a better feel for the type of companies we like. If you are as excited about our one-day Seedcamp in Budapest as we are, apply and let other founders know about Seedcamp too.

Deadline for applications is 16 September – we look forward to seeing what you are working on!

The sun has finally made an appearance just in time for the Olympics, which kicked off fabulously last week. We’re keeping the excitement going with Seedcamp London taking place on the 7th August.

London being home to our most prestigious network, birthplace of Seedcamp as well as a powerful tech hub resulted in the highest number of applications we’ve ever received. Quality was at an all time high so it was no easy quest filtering the talent down to the final selected teams.

Please meet the 2012 London teams, check out their brilliant products and services:

Saul Klein will be hosting the masterclass along with Chris Riley. They will share their knowledge on the importance of storytelling, giving advices on how to engage the audience via narratives and how startups can use various techniques for marketing but many more purposes. This is a masterclass not to be missed as they are given by two superstars; indeed: over the past decades, Chris took the Nike brand global, spent time launching Windows 95, was part of the core marketing team at Apple reporting to Steve Jobs and is now working on emerging brands like Twitter and Foursquare as well as advising brands from emerging markets like Uniqlo and Samsung.

Once again our gratitude goes out to Google for their endless support in hosting us at Campus, where the Seedcamp team is based as well as well as some of our portfolio companies. We are also fortunate and extremely grateful to have 10gen, SoftLayer, and Yammer as our event sponsors for Seedcamp London. Finally, we would like to thank our yearly sponsors Bizspark, Qualcomm and Paypal for their ongoing support.

If you’re a startup and you missed out on Seedcamp London, applications will open very soon for Seedcamp Budapest. Stay tuned for more information!

Repeat their success Do you share the same energy and passion as Frédéric della Faille, co-founder and CEO of Checkthis, the new ‘Instagram of social publishing’, whose team recently closed an impressive $910k seed round after having won Seedcamp London in January? Or, are you going to discover the US market landscape as Bluefields is currently doing with 500 Startups,

If you are ready to expand and build your service or product, go ahead and apply to Seedcamp London, as Checkthis and Bluefields did only a few months ago. Applications close at 11.59pm BST on Wednesday, 18th July. The winners of this event will get the final exclusive places at our annual flagship week in September, Seedcamp Week. This is a priceless opportunity for all our teams to refine their pitches, win new customers, form partnerships and, of course, attract further investment. The epic schedule will allow our teams to meet over 400 mentors over five days, ranging from product experts to corporates, and there will be a massive demo day finale.

Masterclass Seedcamp’s Chairman and serial investor, Saul Klein, will be hosting a masterclass on telling stories and engaging the audience via narratives, which will give several insights on how startups can use various techniques for marketing. There are many different methods that can be used, such as engaging with world-leading brands, politicians, and, of course, the media.

Between the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic Games, London is, without any doubt, a busy city this year. But most important of all, the Tech City is being lit up this summer as Seedcamp London is set to take place on August 7.

London, home to Seedcamp

We are thrilled to announce that we are back in our hometown, and are officially opening applications today. Not only is London Seedcamp’s birthplace, but it is also home to an entrepreneurial ecosystem formed around the Silicon Roundabout, which in the past year has seen unprecedented growth and attention.

Hosted for the first time ever at the newly opened Google Campus, also our new home, Seedcamp London will capture the city’s unique combination of styles, areas of expertise and skills in a creative and energetic setting. Over the past few years, the intersection between digital start-ups and Seedcamp’s community of top international mentors, who are truly passionate about helping the next generation of promising companies, has produced a magical serendipity in speed. Check out insights, from one of the latest companies, on their experience at Seedcamp Berlin here.

A third of our 69 teams are now based in London, many of whom work alongside us out of Campus and benefit from the daily drop-ins which can range from Google’s senior management team to angels, investors and peers and to a broad range of the ecosystem’s movers and shakers. Apart from the benefits of gaining financial investment, Seedcamp winners have a ready-made peer network and can call upon all the expertise and experience of 69 companies’ awesome founders, all-in-all pretty priceless. It doesn’t stop there, we work with many partners all of whom are key players within their industry and are keen to support the next generation of dollar start-ups. As a result we have formed a founder’s pack worth more than €100k. Amazon Web Services joined this initiative just last week and announced a staggering $25,000 AWS credits for all our new teams.

Seedcamp Teams get to evangelize their API’s during our London-based hackathon, Seedhack, where up to 100 awesome developers spend 60 hours hacking. Furthermore teams are invited to a monthly ‘learning day’ where there are speakers ranging from Eric Ries sharing his lean start-up methodology and Ryan Carson discussing his experience in building and selling start-ups to Max Niederhofer speaking candidly about his experience as an entrepreneur and investor – and these are only very few of the examples of the great speakers we’ve have montly.

Last chance to be part of Seedcamp Week 2012

Seedcamp’s particular claim to fame lies in its dedication to organizing local events from New York to Tel Aviv, where selected entrepreneurs present their companies, receive world-class mentoring, network and can compete for investment of sums of up to €50,000. Building on the success of past events, Seedcamp London will be the latest opportunity for aspiring founders to participate in the annual Seedcamp Week. Seedcamp Week is our flagship event of the year: we immerse our 2012 Seedcamp Teams into our incredible pool of mentors, investors, product experts, PR/Marketing gurus and biz dev experts. It is an intense week where Seedcamp’s latest 20 teams will gain in excess of 45 hours of intensive mentoring by over 300 people, topped by a huge Demo day event on the last day.

How to be part of the action?

Today, we are reaching out to the burgeoning companies aspiring to participate at Seedcamp London and be part of the Seedcamp Family. To be part of the Class of 2012, we highly recommend that you get started on your application, make sure to tell us what makes you unique and why you are the next big thing, as well as detailing the progress you have made so far. Standing out from the crowd is the key, and keep it relevant by familiarising yourself with the Seedcamp experience. We look forward to receiving your application and can’t wait to see what the best startups are building across Europe.
