Kat Bassett
Communications Manager
About me
I’m the Communications Manager at Seedcamp. I lead all of our fund and portfolio communications, working closely with our founders on introducing their company to the world, often for the first time. Prior to this, I led marketing at a startup incubated within Universal Music Group, building the brand identity from scratch.
I have an entrepreneurial streak, and helped scale a musictech media and research startup, growing a private community of music business executives, investors and founders, and getting our research profiled in Forbes, The Financial Times and Billboard. I’ve also sporadically freelanced as a journalist over the last decade, and my editorial background still shapes my approach to comms work. I’m endlessly fascinated by exceptional people, and feel privileged to help our founders bring their stories to the world.
I’m originally from the Irish countryside, but I left to study English Literature at UCL, and feel very much at home in this city. I’m passionate about London’s history, and you can often find me on weekends inspecting a crumbling section of the London Wall.
From Day One
While the music industry and VC may seem like very different worlds, they’re both full of doggedly entrepreneurial people trying to bring a vision to life. I deeply admire the grit and verve it takes to do something completely different and against the odds, and I enjoy the vital role that communications work plays in that. It’s also an industry that’s been dramatically impacted by each technological revolution, and it’s created a lifelong obsession with how technology intersects with people and culture – a dynamic I get to see up close in my work at Seedcamp.
I also love how creative comms work for early-stage companies is. It’s a point where messaging is really critical. There’s no brand equity to lean on yet, so there’s simply no excuse for comms to be boring. It’s make or break.
