In 2019, we had the privilege of meeting and supporting Victor Riparbelli, Steffen Tjerrild, Prof. Matt Niessner, and Prof. Lourdes Agapito as they were building Synthesia. They were the first to believe that AI would rapidly shift communication from text to high-fidelity formats like video and audio.
That vision is now a reality! With over 1 million users across 60,000 businesses, including more than 60% of the Fortune 100, Synthesia is the world’s leading enterprise AI video communications platform.
“Four years ago, we brought the world’s first AI avatars to life. Today, the Synthesia platform has evolved way beyond that – dubbing, screen recording, translation, collaboration, assisted creation and so much more enable our customers to communicate with unmatched engagement and efficiency.” – Victor Riparbelli, Co-founder and CEO of Synthesia
Join us in congratulating Synthesia on the successful close of its all-equity $180 million Series D funding round that will fuel its mission of bringing the magic of video to all communication. NEA led the round, with additional support from existing investors, including GV, MMC Ventures, Accel, and FirstMark, and new backers including WiL (World Innovation Lab), Atlassian Ventures, and PSP Growth.
“This new investment will help us develop a new generation of AI-powered video experiences that are interactive, real-time, and personalized, offering possibilities we could have only imagined when we founded the company in 2017. I’m excited to bring these experiences to our over 60,000 customers, which range from the world’s largest brands to thousands of small businesses that use Synthesia to communicate internally and externally with unmatched engagement and efficiency.” – Victor Riparbelli, CEO and co-founder of Synthesia.
The latest funding brings Synthesia’s total capital raised to over $330 million, valuing the company at $2.1 billion. Synthesia is now the largest generative AI media company in the UK by valuation.
With the new funding, Synthesia plans to fuel its next phase of growth, supporting product development and talent growth, and drive the expansion of its AI-powered video platform in several markets, including Japan, Australia, Europe, and North America.
In 2025, Synthesia will enable new AI-powered video experiences, pairing their next-generation avatar technology with large-language models and their new video player.
Synthesia also announced that Peter Hill joined as its new Chief Technology Officer after spending 25 years in technical leadership roles at Amazon, and two years as CEO and CPO of Wildfire Studios.
