Tel Aviv

The tech scene in Tel Aviv is bustling with activity, and ever since our last visit in 2011 we’ve seen a surge of new startups and interesting investments happening. On top of that, new investors, incubators, and workspaces are opening up – it’s therefore no surprise that we’re excited about returning to Israel for the fourth year running.

Trusted partners in crime – Afeka College and lool ventures

We’ll be hosting Seedcamp Tel Aviv on Thursday 29th March in partnership with lool ventures, long time friends and partners in crime in Israel. It’s exciting to be partnering with a local partner who shares so many core values with us. With a great team being lead by Yaniv Golan and Avichay Nissentaum, and their strong base of mentors, we’re sure this event will be bigger and better than ever before. The partnership will go one step further than just organization of the event: we’ll jointly be investing in the winners, giving the startups both a local and international support network. lool ventures is in the perfect position to offer local teams the longer term support they require, with Seedcamp providing strong links to the US and mainland Europe. AFEKA College of Engineering has been kind enough to invite us back to host Seedcamp Tel Aviv at their beautiful premises – we’re based in their new lab building this year.

Who should apply?

Like always, we welcome applications from across the world, so if you’re a startup going places, apply now! Make sure to tell us what makes you unique, and why you’re the next big thing. Companies innovating internet technology, mobile, and social business models are most welcome – just as much as we love b2b focused startups disrupting big industries. Check out our current portfolio to see what excites us: scalable businesses, innovative technology, and interesting markets.

Why should I apply?

First of all, to spend a day with great teams and mentors that can bring your company forward. We will have the cream de la creme of the Israeli tech scene coming as mentors, and according to a past participant, “you will meet more useful people in a day than normally in a year”. This is a great opportunity to meet investors, advisors, and the greatest product experts, that can help you bring your company to the next level.

If your company is selected to join the Seedcamp Family, you will not only be able to take part in our monthly meetups in London, Seedcamp Week, and the annual US trip – our partnership with lool ventures will give you plenty of hands on support, and having one of the most connected Israeli early stage funds is surely a great way to grow your business.

What else should I know?

We receive a lot of applications from eager and talented entrepreneurs for each Seedcamp event, so ensure you spend time articulating the vision of your company, and your progress so far. Standing out from the crowd is key.

Six months ago, we had our very first Seedhack event. The idea was simple, what if we could combine top-notch hackers with leaders from different companies? What if we could bring talented developers from all over Europe to create innovative solutions for organizations or sectors that desperately need them? Could this format help foster great new startups that address untapped needs? Well, we tried it, and it did… read about it here.

Seedhack FinTech

We are now getting ready to release the next version of Seedhack with new features and a new focus: Financial Technology. We expect to be blown away by the awesome ideas and solutions hacked together for the Financial industry.

We have a great set of relevant speakers, API’s and startups including:

More big names will be announced in the run up to the event, and we’re really excited about working with our event partners – both current and future – to bring something new and interesting to the FinTech space.

How do I get involved?

So if you want to be a part of disrupting the Financial technology, please register here.

What and Where?

The event will take place at a location in central London. The schedule of events will be further clarified at a later date, however the rough outline is as follows:

Who Should Apply?

The purpose of Seedhack FinTech is to create disruptive solutions to problems that exist in the Financial sector. As such, if you are an idea person, a developer, or have some skillset that is useful for a new company, then you should apply!

Please note however that this isn’t an event designed to cater to startups wanting to hire developers, please go to our friends at the Silicon Milk Roundabout for that. Additionally, if you are already employed, but want to start a new company anyway, make sure that you are not bound by any non-compete or other intellectual property limitations.

We look forward to see you there, register now!

Seedcamp London is coming up next week, and it’s going to be a record breaker on multiple levels; We had a record number of applications, there are a record number of teams coming (22), and there will be a record number of mentors attending.

Due to the high numbers and high quality of applicants, both judging and selection were particularly challenging, driving us to admit two more teams than usual to Seedcamp London.

This is the complete list of selected teams for Seedcamp London:

Seedcamp London will follow the standard format, with initial presentations from the teams, followed by mentoring sessions and a panel discussion. We are excited to have Rags Gupta of Brightcove and Rob Jonas of inMobi sharing their insights on building truly global businesses. The talk will be moderated by Juan Lobato – who is currently scaling Seedcamp company Basekit internationally, and should therefore have some very interesting insights of his own.
We’d like to thank our yearly sponsors BizsparkQualcomm, and Google, and we’d like to extend a special thank you to our Event Sponsors, iStockphoto for their support and TalkTalk and eOffice for hosting us on January 31.

Firstly: A Happy New Year, we hope 2012 will be a great year for you and your startups. The team here dispersed to all corners of the world for the Christmas break, now we’re back full of energy and enthusiasm for the year ahead.

As you know true entrepreneurs never rest and we’ve certainly witnessed this first hand over the Christmas break, an astonishing number of startups have already applied to our first 2012 event taking place on the 31st January.  Then again, it’s not just the entrepreneurs looking forward to rolling up their sleeves: the mentors are pretty keen to get stuck in, too.  We were super fortunate to have hit 100 mentors sign ups in record time with a pretty extensive waiting alongside it. Startups – these awesome mentors can’t wait to meet you! As you know our core principles are all about building an ecosystem in Europe for start-ups to be nurtured and blossom into the likes of Skype, Spotify, Tweetdeck etc. Mentors play a critical role in this process, they’re skilled, experienced, knowledgeable, networked and above all keen to help the next generation of talent succeed. Looks like we’re all set for an awesome Seedcamp London.

If you’re a startup and still dithering if all this is worth you taking time out of your hectic schedule to apply, then here are some of the people you’ll be meeting. Not often are they all to be found in one room for your benefit:

Along these names, you will find countless other mentors and representatives of our investors, advisory board, and of course the Seedcamp Team. To give the selected teams another helping hand we have a goodie bag of Founder Sponsor offers to give to all the finalists, containing freebies and discounts from the likes of Amazon, Bit.ly, Domain.me, Flowdock, Google, iStockphoto, KISSMetrics, MOO, Zendesk and many more.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our Event Sponsor for Seedcamp London, iStockphoto and Event Partner eOffice, their contribution is invaluable. Likewise extending our appreciation to our yearly sponsors; Microsoft BizSpark, Google and Qualcomm who make it possible for us to run all of this for Europe’s entrepreneurs.

On December 6th, we held 2011’s tenth and final Seedcamp event in Paris, kindly hosted by Orrick. This time around, we had 19 fantastic teams from 11 countries – including 6 from France taking part in the event. After an intense week, the full team has returned home to London. Here we share the highlights of the event with you and introduce the latest team to join the Seedcamp family!

Introducing a new family member Archivme takes care of invoicing and budgeting, and lead by a driven team we’re sure they’re going to rock 2012.

Masterclass Here at Seedcamp we’re experienced fans of Eventbrite, and use it ourselves to organise Seedcamp’s events. We were honoured to be joined by Renaud Visage, co-founder & CTO of Eventbrite, who gave an inspirational talk about building a multinational business while remaining in France, and the challenges that this approach created. It was especially interesting to hear about the different phases of the business, from starting off with only a handful of people to raising more than 80 million dollars.

Mentors We had some truly awesome mentors with us in Paris. We always ask teams to give feedback on the mentors they meet during the day – here are a few of the comments from Paris:

Le Camping and Startup Bus After a long and intensive day of mentoring and networking we were ready for beers and pizza! Le Camping hosted us in their awesome offices (located in the old Paris Stock Exchange). The beer flowed thanks to 360 Capital Partners, and the party went off with a bang. A number of old Seedcamp friends – in town for LeWeb – turned up, and later in the evening the Startup Bus stopped by. We created an impromptu panel and everyone listened to what the ‘Buspreneurs’ had been hacking on whilst touring Europe. Most of the presenters were still giddy from finally being on solid ground, nevertheless several pitched impressive startup ideas.

Finally, here’s some thoughts on the Seedcamp experience from a team’s perspective:

The  final Seedcamp event of the year is taking place in Paris on Tuesday (tomorrow!), and we’re very excited to announce the 20 participating teams:

We are really looking forward to spending a day with these fantastic teams, joined by over 90 of our famous mentors. We also look forward a masterclass by Renaud Visage of Eventbrite.

Once the day is over the networking will continue, startup style, with beer and pizza at Le Camping, based in the beautiful old Parisian stock exchange, courtesy of 360 Capital Partners.

We’re super excited to open applications for the first Seedcamp of 2012 in London, and where better to host it than in our own hometown, London on Tuesday 31st January.

This year we’ve already invested in 22 teams, even before Mini Seedcamp Paris takes place next week. That makes 2011 a record year for Seedcamp – hopefully we’ll continue this trend of going from strength to strength, and 2012 will be even better.

Call us biased, but we think there’s no better way to kick off the year than to spend a day with Europe’s top investors, serial entrepreneurs and product experts. We’re extremely proud of our mentors: we now have over 2,000 high-quality mentors who are truly passionate about helping the next generation of promising startups. They are instrumental in supporting us and our companies, and London is home to some of our best mentors.

So get started on your application now! Make sure to tell us what makes you unique, and why you’re the next big thing. We receive hundreds of great applications for each Seedcamp, so ensure you spend time articulating your vision and company, and your progress so far. Standing out from the crowd is key!

Apply now applications are open until the 12th January 2012, we look forward to seeing you next year.
